Screen Time vs. Bible Time – Finding the Right Balance

In today’s tech-driven world, children are constantly drawn to screens - TVs, tablets, and phones. While digital tools have their benefits, too much screen time can crowd out what’s truly important - spending quality Bible time with God. Finding balance is key!

Here are five practical ways to help children stay grounded in faith while managing technology wisely:

1. Set Clear Boundaries for Screen Time

Create a simple daily routine that includes specific screen limits for learning or play. When children know there’s a time for everything, it teaches them discipline and makes room for family devotions and Bible study for kids.

2. Make Bible Time Fun and Interactive

Turn Bible time into an adventure! Use Christian children’s books, colorful Bible apps, or animated Bible stories that bring Scripture to life. Encourage them to act out short stories like David and Goliath or The Good Samaritan for deeper connection.

3. Create a “No Screen Zone”

Designate certain spaces or times - like during meals, bedtime, or Sunday mornings- as screen-free zones. Instead, fill those moments with conversation, prayer, or reading Bible stories for children. This helps kids value quiet time and reflection.

4. Model the Right Behavior

Children imitate what they see. If they watch you prioritize your phone over prayer, they’ll do the same. Show them that spiritual growth comes before entertainment by reading your Bible or praying alongside them daily.

5. Use Screens for God’s Glory

Not all screen time is bad! There are great children’s ministry resources online - faith-based songs, devotionals, and Christian shows - that can strengthen your child’s walk with God.

When kids learn that technology is a tool, not a master, they’ll discover that the best screen of all is the one that reflects God’s Word.

Blessings,
